Shimla - An Ultimate Hill Station

Shimla name had been derived from Hindu Goddess 'Shayamla Devi'. She is the expression of Goddess Kali. Shimla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. British people discovered this ultimate hill station in the year 1819. Prior this discovery, this city was a part of Nepalese kingdom. In the British Reign, this town was given the name of summer capital of India in the year 1864. It is one of the most sought out destinations of North India. In the year 1903 a railway line was build up between Shimla and Kalka. This hill station is the home for over 1.25 million people. Moreover, it is situated at 2,202 m altitude above sea level. 

The prime and most significant attractions of Shimla include Colonial Homes, Summer Temple, Jakhoo Temple, State Museum, Tara Devi Temple, Christ Church, the Ridge, Annandale, Chadwick Falls, Churdhar Sanctuary, HatKoti, Gurkha Castles, Karyali Temple, Kotesvara Temple, Botanical Gardens, Sanket Mochan Temple, Kuthar Fort, Dagshai, War Memorial and the Mall. The major excursions involve multiple surrounding hill stations and places like Solan, Kufri, Kasuali,Chail, Barog, Nahan, Narkanda, Sirmour, Sarahan, Renuka Lake, Sarol, White Flower Hall, and Rampur. 

Now come to the various modes of transportation available for reaching this soothing hill station with ease and comfort. The Shimla Airport is situated at a distance of 23 Km away at Jubbarhatti. This airport provides daily flights to Delhi, Kullu Manali and Chandigarh. The Jagson’s Airways are the best airways to opt for in order to reach the other parts of India. As usual roadways dominate this city. The roads are finely constructed and smooth. The roadways network is amazing. It will be a little disturbing to know that the near by railway station is situated at Kalka which is 96 Kms from Shimla. You will not get any direct train to Shimla due to this reason.
